Does anyone know what to process is to get a cadet a Band badge if they already have grade 5 on a particular instrument? I have 3 cadets in my sqn who all play drums at a Grade 5/6 standard but none have taken any exams. Can I just acquire a band badge (from somewhere) and present it to them or is there a specific process? :?
They need to have a certificate proving that they have reached grade 5. Send a copy of the certificate to wing (I guess to the bandmaster if you have such a thing) and they should receive in return a little, silver badge.
from what i understand a copy of their certificate can be handed to the Wing Bandmaster (probably with some form( who will then approve the application and issue the badge
given your Cadets havent taken any exams they are unable to prove their ability so can’t see how a badge can be issued
edit: seems incubus got in there before me!
Does anyone have the reference that Grade 5 is the requirement?
The old ACP1812, para 3.3f mentions it.
ACTO123 apparently lists the current criteria for band badges but the ACTO doesn’t appear to exist on Sharepoint

Brilliant, so as it stands there is no reference for this on our Reference site.

Thanks all!
If the cadets can prove that they are of a grade 5 standard (i.e. a letter from their music teacher) would I be able to submit this to the bandmaster?
Thanks,
HR
If I’m correct here (and I think I am?) the proof you will require that a cadet has achieved Grade 5 in any instrument is a certificate from the Royal College of Music or some other similarly accredited body. A letter from a teacher just won’t cut it - anybody can get one of those?
‘Grades’ in music are based on a formal curriculum of study and a long established examination process - and must be if they are to mean anything! :S
