Bader Email

Evening Guys,

Apologies if this topic has appeared before.
However, a quick question from someone who isn’t all that au fait as far as Bader is concerned.
Why is it that not every member of Sqn staff can have a personal Bader email address providing that they occupy a significant role in the Sqn such as Sqn Shooting Officer or Sqn D of E Officer; etc?
Is it due to a shortage of addresses (???). Does HQAC not want everyone to have a networking or common connection? Is it because nobody can be bothered to authorise it?
We all have something to do with an organisation which is countrywide and so should surely have an ability to contact one another, easily, quickly and in a manner which can be recorded if needs be.
Appreciate any comments on this. Thanks.

RS.

Because, I expect, the administration and cost required to deal with such a huge number of accounts would be beyond the ACO. Everyone has access to the generic squadron account xxxx@aircadets.org, so why not send your emails from there?

As it stands there are in the region of 5,000 squadron level accounts - and then the Wing accounts on top of that. That’s probably pretty close to a large organisation in the private sector, without the budget or IT support to match!

I’m not an IT guru, so stand to be corrected, but I’m not sure if would be a huge administrative burden (or cost) involved for this - there might be a server/bandwidth issue (depending in the additional email traffic). My company has a “ccAll” or “ccSpecificDept” option that covers most requirements.

It would require the ability to generate the required email addresses or mass mail options, such as “shooting.cordinator@xxxatc.org” or shooting.cordinators@xxxWg/Region.whatever. Our Wg HQ email addresses as suffixed as “mod.uk” so I presume separate from Bader.

It would certainly maximise the ability for HQ ACO (or further down the chain) to mass mail essential safety items or document updates easily & quickly.

The reasons for WHQ having mod.uk is they have DII account as well as bader accounts. It is down to each wing which one they use more.

The reason is simply cost, according to the chap I spoke to at ATF who came and chatted to us.

That and the service requests they get now are enough to deal with for the small team they have let alone adding thousands more accounts.

He also pointed out that there are still wings which don’t bother allocating their allotted accounts already which wastes money, so more would mean a bigger loss.
