Hi,
I’m new to the forum so I’m sorry if I’ve posted this in the wrong place.
I’m currently going through charity status accreditation which I’m doing to get some software at charity rates. The multinational in question has thus far tried to validate the Squadron as a charity and stopped when they can’t find us on the charity register.
They have now asked for a letter from HMRC confirming we have charitable status and a letter attesting to the charitable status from a trustee. I don’t think they have done much (if any) work at looking into the ATC’s formation to be asking for these types of documents.
I know the ATC was established by Royal Warrant and I believe we are a charity exempt from registration under the Charities Act 2006 but I’m struggling to find anything that’s documented that supports this.
Does anyone know where I might find anything in writing from an official source that I might be able to send over to demonstrate charitable status?
Thanks in advance
I know previously we’ve had a ‘certificate’, of our exception from the duty to be registered faxed from HQAC, this may be your best avenue to take.
You can also look at chapter 2 of http://www.aircadets-3ww.org.uk/archive/pdffiles/ACP%20010.pdf (can’t guarantee how up to date this is)
The majority of wing and squadron Welfare Funds in England and Wales are
registered with the Charity Commission as “Excepted Charities” and as such must be
administered in accordance with Charity laws under the Charities Act 2006
ACP 8 gives each squadron’s Charity Exception Order (CEO) Number; this normally works. Last updated (online) 18 Mar 14.
Thank you for your help.
I’m still having a bit of a job trying to convince them we’re a charity but ACP8 helped a bit.
Thanks again
We aren’t a charity, that’s the reason you’re having trouble.
The ATC general purpose fund is a charity, we’re simply an “excepted charity”, which is slightly different.
Out of interest, what software are you applying for and from whom?
