in todays world of Amazon Prime and next day delivery does anyone really ignore online shopping because they cannot get items delivered?
If not at home, then a work address or a friend’s address…
i cannot believe there isn’t valid alternatives that a family hasn’t found before the need for RAFAC uniform delivery came along
absolutely not. if there is a mailing system, use it - society has moved to to a online purchase/delivery culture.
if we adopt the system it is because it is proven to work already - thus people will already have solutions.
My employer has told its staff not to have personal parcels sent to work address. Two reasons 1 security of items delivered and 2 it creates a not of work for reception staff who have to sign, store and contact the recipient. Ok for a slack handful but December with over 100 staff, suddenly a lot of work.
Regardless as to where it is I’m sure everyone has at least one address; whether work, home, a friend, neighbour, nan, distant cousin, or drop off point they have access to - failing that they’ll have to collect from the courier…
Someone will always find a way to stuff it up and complain. But if it solves 99% of the problems then that would be good. Nothing is perfect.
You’re forgetting the cost SAVINGS where by thousands upon thousands of sets of uniform arent taken out of the system for hoarding…
Postage is cheap compared to everytime a new shirt etc disappears into a Sqns stores never to be seen again!
agreed but in today’s world there are other solutions people will have found before their darling 12 year old needs uniform from a youth group
as does mine. a strict no no - but i have an alternative. I have used both my best mate and my wife address to have precious items delivered to an address.
^^this!
why not the end user?
when i order something online i have a P&P charge…why not the Cadet get charged? Some units (rightly or wrongly) take a £5-20 deposit on uniform, so for some it is not unheard of to pay as small fee for delivery
i am not convinced there would be elimination of posts.
if a single central location any eliminated posts at parent stations would be created at the central location.
and this implies there is someone at parent stations uniquely there for RAFAC uniform support - which we all know isn’t the case.
someone with numbers and a calculator may say that 5% of every storeman’s effort is for the RAFAC and thus with X number in the team outsourcing RAFAC uniform saves X% of a person…if that added up to a whole person at any one station though i would be shocked…
I would argue that the stores on my parent station largely exists to service RAFAC customers, but accept that is unlikely to be a general rule.
The only RAF unit on the station is due to close soon.
If the whole RAF moved to a similar system with only small distribution hubs on stations and one giant warehouse somewhere I think there could be considerable cost saving.
I’m not sure the direct to cadet model would necessarily work, but that’s just my opinion. I think it would be more sensible for orders to go to WHQ and then distributed from there. (I accept there may need to be some exceptions in very large wings).
Sell uniform, stores, consumables for Sqns and individuals through it.
Just face up to the fact that it would be better if everyone bought their own uniform from central supply. But recieved it within 48 hours!
No more mucking around.
RAF can still support us by providing the supply of uniform for amazon to then distribute.
Individuals would simply be paying the cost of delivery and handling.
Benefit is, everything could be sold that way from cylumes, to cam cream, to ration packs to Sqn t-shirts etc etc.
Only issue to overcome then would be ensuring that non-members couldn’t access it.
But I’m sure some form of security method could be found.
