The Sqn is currently running 3 nights a week in order to get each bubble plus the training flight bubble in.

Haven’t been at the squadron for over a year and 2 months. Not even back to get the premises ready for cadets to return FtoF.

Why’s that?

Waiting on restriction being lifted (Northern Ireland).

Ahhh right fair enough.

I was surprised when someone posted the NI restrictions on here the other day and saw that you’re only allowed 6 CFAV at the moment and no cadets.

We have had a staff meeting to talk about things, but that was the first time we had been allowed into the building since lockdown 1. We are still some way off going back not least due to things like emergency lighting/fire stuff not having been fixed since before lockdown, oh and an alarm that we cant turn off…

I’d be jumping up and down!

The system is failing cadets when we need more than ever for it to work.

Awaiting the final approval from RHQ for this Monday 28th March to return to face to face training in the building. Been out since lockdown 1 in March 2020.

Lost 50% staff including the OiC, 75% of cadets and 100% CivCom in the intervening period.

Wow!

Thats long haul.

Good luck with it!

Thanks.

It has been a long haul but I’m looking forward to the challenge. I took over as OiC mid pandemic as the previous OiC went on leave then never came back. I completed my SCC last year and got officially appointed as OC.

The previous OiC had taken over from me a few months before the pandemic and basically undone all the work I had done, then the pandemic hit.

It will be a challenge with one other member of staff who has stuck by throughout the whole time and one who has just transferred in. So between us we will strive to rebuild the squadron into something the cadets can be proud of and give them the best cadet experience we can.

Hopefully the pandemic will have been a blessing as all those that were there for the wrong reasons (including the CivCom who did nothing anyway) have now gone.

Onwards and upwards.

Best of luck with your efforts!

I hope the squadron achieves great things in the future.

How is anybody not?

Anyone visited a school since, I don’t know, April 2021?

(sigh)

There are some that have had extended building issues following renovations. So that’s one “how”.

Im aware schools have been back since April 2021, my son goes to one.

Here’s a brief overview of how not!
In Scotland Health & social Care is devolved to Scottish Government, so different rules to follow.
Since the 1st lockdown there’s been several national ( Scotland wide) and local lockdowns and additional restrictions.
I live in a different local authority area so at one point even if we were back I couldn’t travel into the area where the squadron is or I was breaking the law, therefore we couldn’t of opened due to lack of staff.
The 2 remaining members of staff both work in the Health and Social Care sector. I work in the NHS and I’ve been kind of busy over the last 2 years while others were on furlough.
A long drawn out process of paperwork, paperwork submitted to WHQ in October still awaiting final approval from Regional HQ to return.

It’s been emotional to say the least.
