Are instructor cadets still supposed to exist?

Mainly wondering this as i keep seeing people running about with those tapes, from Sergeant to CWO at my most recent regional camp.

I was under the impression that these things where dead/ a dying breed of tapes as we transition into the blue/yellow tapes of despair.

My understand was those are back on the old system when instructor cadet was a formal classification after master cadet, rather than the standalone MOI qualification with the spaghetti lanyard on the shoulder.

So yes instructor cadets exist, but it’s a broad term for anyone with the MOI qual and is indicated by wearing the qual lanyard, definitely not rankslides anymore.

No.
The term Staff Cadet has replaced Instructor Cadet for adult aged cadets and the yellow lanyard shows the cadets status as a qualified instructor (MOI).

Instructor cadet rank slides are obsolete.

These things should have been a dead and dying breed a long time ago, way before the new coloured tapes.

Pretty sure these tapes were removed in about 2014, when they moved to staff cadet?

If they’ve been gone since 2014 roughly then i guess Scotland is stuck in 2014, as we still have them floating about in use everywhere

It’s probably because either…

  1. Squadrons are unable to get a supply of new staff cadet badges from their Region HQ
  2. They havent been informed correct of the changes…
  3. Its what they’ve always done…. And no one has chased them about it.

Or worse a wing has decided it’d be a fun wingism

So you are still using Instructor Cadet tapes as in the photo? It’s been at least 10 years since they were stopped. So I’d be intrigued to know why they’re still in use!

Who is wearing them?

Over 18 cadets, who should be wearing STAFF CADET?

Or MOI qualified cadets, who should be wearing the yellow lanyard?

Me personally not as for starters i do not have MOI or am a sergeant!

Put i see them all over Scotland and was always under the impression they’d had been wiped out!

  1. SNI has been successful on giving out the new staff cadet tapes since they are in general use on all ranks.

  2. probably

  3. This would probably correct as the further north the more uniform oddities and wildcards tend to appear.

Such as the rarely sighted Wing Corporal?

That wing com slide has some tales attached to it

If it beat it on the same camp as the nefarious instructor cadets, there was people running around with Chf techie slides at one point on camp

what happens in SNI stays within SNI

Awh naw he’s been summoned

Until you post it on Air Cadet Central

Never seen one in the wild - I’m central belt.

Can’t wait until we finally make them probationary sgts but with access to unique development opportunities until they’re 20, a bit like an “adventure scouts” bonus tier.

It’s a pain trying to provide O18 cadets with an enhance developmental experience with more responsibility but not being able to engage with them as the adults they are.

Quite

And now they no longer count toward ratios and can’t exercise certain quals a lot don’t see the point.

Most of my cadets leave before they turn 18 now - often quite a lot earlier than they did as they know they’re not staying on (so at end of year 12 or thereabouts)
