i recently heard the format of the formal “inspection” by the Wg Cmdr however is going to change for us, based on a “presentation” format of explaining what we have achieved in the last 12 months
A presentation from whom?
a presentation by the Sqn (Staff/Cdts) which my CO said would “run in the same format as our annual review” which for us is an explaination to the invited parents and VIPs what the year included, based on the various activities and what they consists of and of course how we got on

ie

Annual Camps are a week away, living the life of the RAF, visiting the different sections…etc. this year we went to RAF Anytown
at the Wing athletics all Sqn met at the sport field and compete in…[insert track &field events]…this year was our best year winning 2 Silvers and 6 bronze medals
we have many opportunities for shooting, firing the…
this year X number of Marksmans were awarded

etc etc
This seems very much like a complete waste of time.

An AFI should be that, a formal inspection. An Inspection of the Sqn’s achievements and an inspection of the Sqn’s mandatory paperwork (H&S Binder, Fire and Security Orders etc). How is this being inspected by a presentation by the staff/cadets?

The achievements should be put down in a standard report that can be compared to the other Sqns in the wing. A presentation to VIPs and guests wouldn’t include the Sqn’s shortcomings. The new format sounds like a mandated presentation evening masked as an AFI.
