what info would be out on it?
I don’t really know. I thought it would be a interesting discussion. Maybe talk about The months most popular forum posts?

I always think that podcasts would be a nice idea, but never have time to listen to them! They are quite a lot of work to make too.
Something similar is the monthly ‘How to’ that was proposed a while ago.
Redowling made one for Clay Target Shooting that can be found here.
It might, in my opinion (welcome to the forum btw). It was discussed briefly on the old forum, there was a WO that said he was keen to trial it, but no more was heard (pun unintended).
Equally, a sort of magazine ‘year-book’/roundup might be a possibility (say monthly, or whatever). However, you’d need to decide if it was going to be a for-members, warts-and-all, insider-jokes’n’jollies opiniogram, or a dead-pan 3rd-person newscast. I think…but, it might be worth trialling.
What’s your opinion DJ Rice, as Forum majordomo?

Yeah that was me
I put the idea out and asked for contributors but didn’t get many responses unfortunately. Actually I was just thinking about this again the other day with regards my own wing, but the immortal question of what would be discussed came up again.
I think going over some of the popular posts of the previous post would be a good idea, along with how to podcasts as well. Audio would be the initial format but then you can mix and match and have some videos for guides. We could also ask for people to send in their cadet related messages which we can read out, or their discussion points.
As for the how, Skype seems to be a popular way of doing them. You can get some software that records the conversations of multiple accounts.

Chaps,
I think this is a very interesting idea! Both a forum/Air Cadets general podcast as well as the how-to podcasts.
The technology of making a podcast has become easier over the years, skype (or other voip style software) is often used as well as getting a couple of people together in a room.
There are hosting services available or indeed pop them on the ACC server.
iTunes and Google Play services are also available.
It would need a ‘lead’ person to take control of organising the programme as well as deciding content/interviews.
If we used the wide range of distribution services we couldn’t restrict it to forum members only - or we do 2 versions a ‘clean’ worldwide access version and an unabridged members only version - it would make slightly more work though
But overall I like the idea,
Volunteers please to take this on…
cheers
DJ
I would love to be involved but as the sports officer for my wing I am already heavily taken up so could not run this as the main person, but would love to be one of the people who come on and discuss stuff etc.
I think a good example of how pod casts can be done are the ones done by the TWIT network. I know they are video ones but they come over well on audio only too.
I would like to get involved too. I just need to buy a new mic.
Can’t wait for the first one lol I guess we would need some dry runs first off to see how it goes.
Anyone got any ideas on content for the first one?
I guess it would be a good idea to ensure that we had a disclaimer on it so that it says the views are our own and not the Corps.
Also is there anyone out there who fancies themselves as a composer and wants to do a theme tune?
It would be good if a moderator lead the podcast. It’ll be more stable then.I know a few people that compose, so ill ask around but We could all ways use some royalty free music as the theme.
We need more members, we cant do it with the current numbers. If any one is interested please reply.
Hey Gizmo, DM me so we can exchange emails addresses and start planning out what we could possibly do
let me know what you come up with
I don’t see what this would achieve and what purpose it would serve?
I agree videos are the future though…
Have you seen this one some plucky CWOs did?

I think the purpose would be to sort of extend these boards a little. There are numourous examples of podcasts which serve to fuel debate. Perhaps part of it would be to have a group of people from around the Corps to come together say monthly and go over some of the posts which have been most active ove the previous weeks, or ask people on the board to nominate the topics for discussion.
The main issue we could have is that we would need to ensure that suitable disclaimers are on the podcast so everyone knows that these are personal views and not anything officially to do with the Corps etc.
Things like this tend to grow naturally, but you have to have some people want to try it first and slug it out at first in order to get it established and then it can grow.
The videos are a great idea, and I can see them becoming very popular with cadets, especially the younger end. We need to encourage more co-operation between cadets and squadrons in the sharing of knowledge. The problem is how. I see the videos and the podcast being ways of doing this.
Also the podcast can be used as a way of giving people outside the Corps a view inside to see what we are all about. I know the suggestion was given on having two versions of the podcast but i think there is so much work in doing just one podcast that at first I think we should stick to the one. And anyway if we did do a restricted podcast then how would we distribute it easily - iTunes would not be a natural home for it.
I am happy to get involved with the project to do the planning and try and bring everyone together, and maybe appear on an episode or two, but I won’t be able to do everything as my time is already taken up a lot with wing and region sports
If anyone wants to get involved just send me a DM message and I will put together a list of interested people. I would say that if you are interested you should create a Skype account.
My personal opinion is the same as Leeroy’s. I can’t see a need nor a reason for creating them!
I can’t see the point personally, it would be a bit like preaching to the choir. But hey, whatever keeps people happy.
