AFM - VGS Artical

Hell othere,

Did any ready the AFM artical on the VGS / Gliding org within the ATC? There was an interesting comment of that a Gliding instructor is a full time officer with the RAF but is flying for the VGS full time… yet the instructor wanted to become a pliot in the RAF but couldnt however it was advised that he could fly full time for the VGS? is this correct?

This is news to me, do you have a link to the article?

There are several full time regular pilots who are posted in to CGS (well, I can think of at least three). Is it possible he’s one of them?

He doesn’t work full time for the VGS he works full time for CGS as a civil servant in an admin roll but is an instructor on one of the Syerston VGSs at the weekend. He is an officer although I have no idea if this is a rank he has attained through CGS, VGS or a civil service “RAFVR rank”, a number of the CGS MT drivers also fly with the VGSs at weekends.

hope that clears it up :cheer:

Haven’t read the article, but I believe I’ve met the lad in question. IIRC he’s a VR(T) officer on a squadron, a supernumary officer on the VGS and an MoD civil servant working at RAFCGS. Again, IIRC, he wears his uniform at the request of OC RAFCGS.

Or perhaps he has a similar arrangement to the TO at ATF? IIRC she’s a civi but wears uniform to work and holds a VR(T) rank.
