When it comes to visiting the AFCO for the first time do you have to make an appointment or anything?
You don’t need to make an appointment, you can walk in straight off the street. You may need to wait if they are busy though.
Depends on the AFCO! Our local one you definitely do need an appointment otherwise you’ll show up and be asked to make an appointment - which could well be a wasted journey depending on how far away your AFCO is! Also, some AFCOs, whilst branded “Armed Forces” only have the various recruiters in for 1 day a week - our one of ours only has RAF & RN in one day a week!
Much appreciated guys, how do I contact an AFCO?
Go on the specific service website you’re interested in and either phone the helpline, or look for their “contact us” information then phone the relevant number.
Thank you!
I just turned up to my local one (London), but was looking at also going to Brighton, which is by appointment only. It depends on how popular they are, I guess.
I happened to go on the day they had a mass RAF assessment day, and was sitting amongst people dressed up in suits while I was in shorts & trainers, so although there is no dress regs for just turning up, I would advise jeans & smart shoes. Unless you are applying, in which case shirt, trousers & smart shoes. Never have I felt as under dressed as I did that day (even though it was a spur of the moment decision to go).
Many thanks guys.
