AEF following flu jabs: opinions yes/no?

An unusual scenario: a Cadet who was tagged to go on AEF this weekend has indicated that they got an uncheduled full flu jab yesterday, and are now feeling slight flu symptoms (which I do understand can happen).

Any informed opionions here as to whether they should be pulled from flying? Clearly, if they get worse overnight it becomes a no-brainer: I’m loath to take them out of the group, but, it might have to be the case regardless.

Please give me your collective thoughts on this, thanks…

If no nausea, or specific issues that would cause issues with flying (blocked sinus or ears, etc), take them along. Assess at the AEF. Can any reserve get to the AEF quickly & independently if the first cadet can’t fly?

Bad timing!!

It has been known for flu jabs to cause very light symptoms such as headache or a very slight fever, however they cannot actually cause flu and any side effects would be short lived. I wouldn’t have thought it would be a problem.

I agree with the above, it isn’t live virus but there can be a small number of people that do experience some minor side effects.

However, having had the flu jab a couple of weeks ago through work…I am quite convinced that for some people the jab can lower your immunity to other bugs out there. I have just about finished being ill with flu like symptoms I am convinced it is because of lowered immunity following the jab - happened last year as well just after the jab. I don’t think the jab likes me and I don’t think I would have it again but I digress.

There is nothing to say that they can’t fly just because they have had the jab, unless they show any of the usual symptoms or become ill…

It could be a coincidence. The flu jab will not immunise you against all strains and it is given at a time of year when people have a higher chance of getting flu. You are probably just unlucky.
