AEF Allocation Queries

Hello, I hope everybody is doing well.
I recently applied for two AEFs at RAF St. Mawgan in August but I’ve been put on reserve for both slots. This happened last year as well.

My question is- do I keep getting allocated reserve places because I’m already paying for my own flight lessons (which are few and reasonably far between because of the high costs) or just because it’s pure chance?

You’d be best asking your squadron staff, as most AEF allocations are decided locally.

Yup, usually Regional Aviation Officer gets the dates, times, number of places from the AEF; splits them up over the Wings; Wing Aviation Officer splits them over the squadrons; and the squadron staff then decide who goes. The system further up doesn’t really care all that much, as long as there are bums on seats…
