As with all CCFs we are fortunately privy to a large field every parade, and I imagine there will be a number of ATC squadrons in a similar situation. I’d like to make use of this a bit more - has anyone got any novel activities that they do over such a large area?

Did one when I was at school that was a bit of a cross between it’s a knock out, crystal maze & treasure hunt.
In short series of command tasks on different points of the school field different order of teams get different locations to go to (potentially using bearings & pace distance) but complete same task.
Final task is build a tri-pod to raise a flag.
First to raise their flag wins.
Just make sure you avoid the golf course greens & there’s no inter county comps going on at the time

Make tactical landing zones for helicopters.
Cadets need to work out the size of space the different helicopters will need, wind direction and approaches, danger points, navigation way points, troop muster points, radio procedures for talking the helicopters in, hand signals….
Watch helicopter landings on YouTube, talk to Joint Helicopter Support Sqn at RAF Benson and ask for whatever materials they can send you - and if necessary, let the cadets make it up.

Not a bad idea actually. The local Air Ambulance has landed on our field a few times as well. Might be worth reaching out to JHSS as you say

Micro navigation… for cash!
Devise a simple course using distances and bearings which starts and ends at the same point, but which comfortably fits within your area.
Cadet puts 50p on the ground and must use the pacing/bearings to navigate back exactly to their 50p. If they get back, they keep it, if they don’t, the field wins!
I’ve found them using/losing their own money is a surprisingly good incentive to be successful navigation.
(You don’t have to use cash… any small coin sized marker will work).
