30L MTP bag for road marching, <£30

I’m looking for a 30L MTP bag for road marching (thus needs a hip belt and chest strap) to put on my Christmas list, so unfortunately I would be constricted to a budget of no more than £30 - I’ve looked on eBay, Amazon etc. but cant seem to find any decent ones that are minimum 30L. Any recommendations?

That price range, best bet is ebay second hand

Or if you can edge it up to £40

Thank you!

Shop around. There is a seller listing the Army Cadet Patrol Pack on eBay for £25. It is not the most robust bit of kit, but you get what you pay for.

Mil Tec does a reasonably well made larger daysack (37l - think only that size has the belt). It’s sold as ‘multi tarn’.

If searching online also look for Multicam not MTP as MTP will only really list issued kit.

Thank you, will keep a lookout

I found this 25 litre rucksack on eBay which seems a very cheap price at £21 inc postage. Anyone know about the quality of a Kombat Stealth 25L rucksack? Might be too cheap.

Those are ok for general admin bags, for range kit or even to carry a laptop or radios. A fee of our cadets have them or similar.

The downside is they are quite narrow and quite deep from front to back, and because of the number of sections the capacity is quite limited especially against a top flap single compartment bag (eg Berghaus Munro).

So wouldn’t be my first choice for RM or fielcraft.

They seem to be even cheaper now, which would make them an ok option for a cadet who wants a ‘greens’ bag to carry bits and bobs in.

For what the OP wants, the 37L Kombat bay sack (similar shape) is a pretty good bit of kit. I had one for many years for work. I’m not sure they are quite as heavy duty as they were and I can’t comment on the BTP pattern as mine was plain coloured.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure about the quality of Kombat kit and, as I’m likely to use it for many years, I’m happy to spend more for a more robust design. They certainly seem excellent value for cadets though.

Some of their stuff is ok, some of it is even quite good - especially the older genuine multicam which they no longer make.

My old day sack was solid, good zips and clips, metal D rings and the like. I’d want to see the BTP stuff before comparing.

For CFAV I’d recommend Warrior Assault Systems’ Pegasus or Predator, a 5.11 Rush 24 or the Camelbak Motherlode if you like clamshell designs.

If you prefer a larger single compartment, it has to be a Munro really, the Karrimor SF Sabre, or the issued PLCE infantry daysack (made by PRI, who make Karrimor SF - not the same stuff as Sports Direct).

I think there is a daysack addict support group thread somewhere on here too.

ETA: Karrimor Predator (not to be confused with the WAS bag of same name) is basically the Sabre with molle so a bit more military looking in plain colours.

I have always recommended the Highlander Forces 33. Classic Rucksack shape with a large main compartment for waterproofs and three smaller compartments for thins needed in a hurry. They were always very competitive on price and were good quality. They have the bonus of sitting close to the back unlike many of the more ally bags.

For weight carriers the Forces 44 is that bit larger and has a thick padded waste strap. Tried out several expensive and the hugely expensive 5.11 Rush 72 and always went back to the cheap and cheerful Forces 44.

You will not get a good bag for under £30 these days. £40 to £50 is closes to the mark unless you go down the second hand route.

Forces 33L would be a good shout for RM. The waist strap is a bit flimsy though.

Personally I’d get one in green (they don’t seem to make it in coyote now) and buy an MTP cover. The plain colours seem to be on offer more than their version of MTP.
