Fixed it.

No, they want their activities but not what the client group want and those who provide them locally.

“No authority without responsibility” is a concept that a military-linked org like RAFAC should not only understand, but live and breathe too.

I’ll probably be ‘there’ too as in listening in on Teams on my phone, but not actively participating (although it sounds like that won’t be possible anyway with the type of event it is.

They may not reduce the 28 days but limit the rate of pay?

Just a thought.

Was there not talk previously about it being changed to a blanket £30 per diem for all CFAVs regardless of rank or having separate rates for Directors and Participants to reflect the difference in responsibility.

MB

The issue is that a blanket reduction would mean people take on less responsibility.

The director/participant option is there but would need IT support to be able to do that and pass the setting from SMS in to the pay system. Something that doesn’t currently exist.

As we’re after quick fix money saving the simplest option is to reduce pay days per person. That’s just an update to a couple of ACPs.

Let’s wait and see. But a change to the VA rates would certainly make me re-evaluate some of the work* I do for HQ RAFAC.

*It certainly feels like work… and some of it was until recently definitely staff work which should have been done by the PS. That’s improved a bit recently, though.

this has been discussed for a number of years (pre-pandemic) but nothing has happened except the drop down option on an SMS application.

I would suggest that the event commander has a much greater responsibility that a director. The author of the SMS will have much more work that a director. The author may not even be on the clearance

What you could do is have the pay rates simplified to
Officer -Training
Officer -Substantive
Officer -Enhanced

NCO -Training
NCO -Substantive
NCO -Enhanced

The difference between NCO & Officer is due to officers often doing a larger number of functions where No1 or 5s are expected plus other incidental expenses. Officers also have buy their own uniform still.

What it means is that you got have the rate for Wg Cdr & Sqn leader knocking the stats & the budget out.

Please not here. Take it to one of the many, many other threads we have and save this for discussing the dial in.

Think leading on regarding the VA issue is that we as volunteers don’t understand what the background pressures are.

So perhaps the dial in can lead to more crowd surfing for solutions to solve the pressure problems rather than imposing the solutions or only going by one or two peoples opinions.

for £30 a day which then means ~£20 after tax if you’re lucky, I’ll stay at home thanks!

£20 wouldn’t cover my fuel for activities across most of my sector, let alone wing. And the “digital” mileage claims system is so poor it puts me off claiming.

Not to get into the whole pay vs allowance but if your doing a full day at £30 a day that would be less than HMRC scale rates for allowable expenses you would get it all as it could reasonably be expected to cover your food expenses for the day.

Also then removes the admin burden of reporting and payments to HMRC reducing costs.

There will be cutbacks and that’s all we know. Only a couple of days to wait now.

Will it affect what I volunteer?

Let’s be honest it’s not going to be a single thing but a reassessment of commitment based on current facts. As someone who walked away once when it got too much I may do again and I may not. If I choose to spend more time doing paddlesports, any other hobby or even just sitting on my backside I’m big enough to admit it’s not because of what the organisation does it’s because I have decided that my priorities have changed.

What about the living minimum wage :man_shrugging:t2:

Sorry at £12/hr for 8 hrs, that’ll bankrupt us :roll_eyes:

Because it’s not a job so we won’t get the minimum living wage….

It’ll affect us all different and if VA is affected (and if anyone has used the CACE Matrix you can see why it’s likely to, it’s a stark reality on cost) some people will go, but others won’t. It was the same when we went VRT to RAFAC.

Most of us were screaming out for better Coms, that it was Chinese whispers, the rumours were adrift, that we didnt really known what HQAC wanted and listening to others from other areas depending on your postcode could depend on what rules you were told (take the media blackout some people have been told following the chat)

At least regardless of good and bad, we are going to hear it from HQAC (ok adminitally amongst some waffle here and there!) that has to be a step forward, just like the weekly briefs have been a huge step forward.

CFAVs are explicitly excepted from the NMW in the National Minimum Wage Act 1998

Mad that this has caused 100 posts and the call hasn’t even happened yet!!
