You know what really makes me laugh?

I’ve seen many images and videos where they do not. For starters, some hair just cannot be tucked in!

Maybe it depends on SOPs. Or they are just pragmatic about these things, as in so much else.

I’m still not convinced of the risk from the bergen though.

Nor me, it is the silliest argument that I have heard.

And anyway ATC Cadets are not allowed to use bergans. So the point is moot.

Not to worry, fringes are allowed

Yeah, they just have to put the same amount of kit in a smaller rucksack…

Don’t get me started on that!

Wait what?!? Since when?

It’s not like we make Cadets have their hair tied back on DofE

Is that French Plait? I have two daughters.

Yes. It seems to be the style generally worn by female soldiers in the field (those who wear it down). Keeps hair out of the way.

I counted 46 pony tails/plaits on parade today. (Non from the boys)Contingent commander was twitching.

Funnily, our regs state we’re emulating yours. As the approved kit is the ACF assault vest and NI pack.

But they didn’t change the SOPs as to what to put in the pack. So now we have regs that tell us to put more kit in the bag than can physically accommodate it!

We don’t have the NI pack on issue, only the cadet Bergen (which is basically a daysack). The difference is that we don’t say that these are the only items that can be used. When the vest was introduced, the regulations stated that cadets had to use it. That rule lasted about 24-48 hours before they realised the booboo they’d made as there were not enough vests to go round, and most detachments had a stock of PLCE.

The cadet bergen is fine for a 1 star staying out 1 night, but not suitable for 3 and 4 stars who stay out much longer.

Yeah, that common sense didn’t get filtered down.

School photos tomorrow. Eldest came home with two front teeth missing (they’ve been hanging on for dear life for ages) and middle kid came home with a massive graze on his chin. Mrs Farmer going loopy about the ruined photos. I’m just thinking they’ll be an accurate representation of the year.
