You know what really makes me laugh?

Will they get rid of the Aircrew status for SNCOs? But allowing CGI is eminently sensible, without wanting to open the CI debate again.

I’m not a religious person, but could start being so inclined if that goes ahead!!

Long way to go…

Why?

Have I missed something? Why is it so wrong?

My views were stated several times previously; SNCOs (or RAFAC personnel, whatever) flying gliders should NEVER have been designated as aircrew.

Dont disagree with that. They’re all jumped up growbag wearers…

Was wondering about the SNCO bit specifically.

But that clarifys it.

Genuine conversation with someone I had about 2 years ago…

Hi
Hi
Blah
Blah
What’s your job
Oh, im a pilot
Oh that’s interesting, What do you fly?
I’m aircrew with the RAF
Oh… really…:face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle:
Yes. I’m actually an instructor…
Oh…really…:face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle:, that’s intersting, tell me more.
I instruct on ‘Viking Mk1s’ at ‘RAF Ternhill’!
I see. So you’re a glider pilot with the cadets then.

Insert shocked aghast face that they have been sused…

Walks away.

It’s sad but we all know someone who would do this or similar…

There is someone on linkedin who has SNCO Aircrew at Royal Air Force Gliding Squadron as a listed job.

I have seen RAF VRT officer as job description numerous times on linked in. I have even seen people posing in their uniform as their pictures on linked in some even without the collar insignia!!!

I don’t know wether to cringe or laugh at them but I normally drop into conversation when I see them what I think….

I think I have used my ATC/RAF VRT info once applying for a job and it was because it was in relation to the job requirement.

I list RAF Air Cadets under the volunteering heading on linked in and put my roles on there and how doing the roles help develop young people.

I don’t think there is any problem in being proud of your volunteering - as long as you are not pretending it is something it is not.

That’s ok to me volunteering is great and should be highlighted but you don’t put it under employment do you and you don’t say RAF VRT officer that is definitely trying to pull the wool.

The thing is blahing it up comes back to haunt people, we are a big organisation with lots of ex-staff and cadets out there, either way it’s going to prompt questions and you can easily make yourself look foolish.

@anon9987823 has the right way to do it.

From memory LinkedIn had some strange data tags, possibly prior to having a volunteer section. Or maybe they are just Walts.

Yeah, this is the right answer! I also do some volunteering with a couple of schools and that goes in this section too. I don’t try to pretend I’m a teacher :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve seen enough LinkedIn profiles to know they are Walts.

-Picture in full no1 uniform
-Job something along the lines of “officer commanding RAFAC” normally tagged into the RAF rather than us.
-Only at the very bottom is an actual job, it’s pretty common when said job is fairly menial when the above is true.

I don’t list the RAFAC at all on my profile.

Maybe I should?

MML - Reddit and Stackoverflow both being down at the moment. I feel sorry for those programmers right now

the issue with this, and the rest of that hypothetical conversation is the waltiness around it.

if someone asked me “what do i do” I reply “Cadet instructor” - and if out of uniform they can the same answer without any indication of my rank to imply my seniority.

we all play dress up - be ir “aircrew” or T&L WO, or Sqn Ldr it is all a badge which is meaningless outside of the organisation other than by a parallel system in the serving forces - but those who make a big thing of that connection are the walts.

If your paid for it it’s a job and goes in the experience section on LinkedIn, especially before they added the volunteer section. That said RAFAC is in my volunteer section and not experience.

I have RAFAC in my headline as a secondary point as it’s a huge part of what I do and I spend a fair amount of time dedicated to it. It may instantly put off a recruiter or ‘talent acquisition’ person from a company and that’s fine as it saves them wasting my time. Have they actually listed it as a job or is it just part of their headline? A lot of people just duplicate their current role in into the headline. I have always had something about my current role and my main volunteering in my headline, but that’s a leagcy thing since before LinkedIn added the volunteering section
