Do people actually get told what type of flying slots they’re getting? All we get told is “you’ve got X slots at so and so AEF/VGS on this date”, no mention of what lesson is to be taught. No way of knowing what cadets to send.
Everything apart from availability.
Progression is only possible if training is at intervals which aren’t too far apart, otherwise the skill has faded before progression is possible.
True - it is a tricky one
Yes - AEF fly civilian children. UAS fly RAF adults.
It certainly says on our local VGS JIs that they’re Blue Wings slots - and if someone is sent who is looking to complete their Bronze Wings, that takes the place of 2 Blue Wings cadet allocations.
And that’s my point. Unless you are getting regular flights then it’s an air experience flight dressed as a lesson. No fault or criticism of the VGS staff who do a great job. It’s a sad side effect of the pitiful state the powers that be have let our gliding provision slip into.
This is certainly all we get.
Newbies only…a shame as when we’ve got mad keen cadets to go for a second go but pulling teeth to get novices to put their name down…or back out last minute
There’s no such thing as Bronze Wings no me though, other than for cadets tha my have been on Silver Gliding Scholarship or ACPS but failed to go solo.; so every AEF and VGS slot given out to squadrons will be Blue.
I think this was pre-new syllabus… sorry for any confusion
Your comment is invalid, cadets a week ago flying from Woodvale.
It’s not current, those comments relate to a previous AEF ban at Woodvale. The issue has since been fixed.
Anyway, to steer this back on topic….are we getting more cadets a flight in a glider?
Nope, still just one at a time! …
Maybe this is the future
That’s Army though…
According to Facebook, 632 VGS have just finished ‘an AMAZING and successful week detached at RAF Little Rissington’.
The 21 staff were able to deliver 8x Blue Wings, 5x Silver Wings and 2x Gold Wings over the week.
8 first flights over the week! Is this enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that throughput is not increasing?
You seem to have missed the 5 silver and 2 Gold in that sentence….
Those silver and gold would be equivalent to tens of blue each
Ok, let me put it another way…1 week of flying, 21 staff involved and only 15 cadets got the opportunity to fly!
I think we have different priorities here. 5 cadets flew solo and 2 more are on their first steps to being able to teach cadets themselves.
And if you’d considered it you’d realise that 21 staff rotate through (so not always the same people every day).
