VGS - Increased Productivity?

We are now 6 months into the change, with regard to freeing up VGS’s to deliver more gliding slots, so I was wondering if there was any anecdotal evidence that this is being achieved.

I know that my squadron hasn’t had any gliding slots in the last 6 months and we haven’t been offered any future ones either, so from our point of view its no change!

Same here. Only had 2 AEF slots (2 people, not 2 full allocations!!) in that time frame.

Our VGS isn’t flying cadets at the moment, but they are doing Ground school…

Turnhill has had it hanger condemned. No flying until a new one is built,

So…no flying for a few years then.
Just when you think we’d turned a corner !!!

Just had our wings quarterly allocation upped from 5 spaces to 8…

Wow. What’s that as a percentage of cadets in the Wing? <1%?

Probably, 28 squadrons, probably an average of 30 cadets per sqn… So just shy of 1%.

We’re doing better with AEF by quite a margin!

So, times that by 4 quarters and you’re looking at 25 years to get all cadets in the wing a glider flight !!!

If someone can produce a business case for it to be replaced?

It took Woodvale 4 years to find the funding to resurface their runway - and that is a base that has a number of users.

Tern hill has the VGS… and that’s it. I’m not holding my breath…

The thing is that Woodvale continued to be a heli-ops site, and the UASs continued to operate but the AEF was stopped from operating.

If it took 4 years to find the funding to fix a runway on a station that is in use daily by multiple units, how long and how much of a priority is finding the funding to repair a hangar for a unit that operates only a weekend and has zero effect on any other unit?

It will be deemed not economically viable to repair or replace the hangar. It will be given to a charity, who will also be given a multi-million pound government grant to build another one. The charity will then keep ownership of one corner of the hangar and sell the rest to put millions into the charity coffers.

Sound familiar?

Different risk factors for AEF flying at Woodvale.

The charity you refer to will not make millions out of Project Able.

Any aircraft the charity acquire will be used for the benefit of the community and increase access to flying for the disabled/injured veterans etc……
