Uniformed staff on a squadron night

That would be the same regardless of status and come to that organisation, if negligence was proved.
my point exactly.

as a CI or SNCOs with a BEL ticket for example, Cadets can be lead and instructed and could receive injury.

is it the fault of the qualified instructor (ATC) or the OC (VRT) who gets a clip round the head?

taking the view of the Daily Mail…would they discriminate between ATC or VRT? i very much doubt it, the headline read CFAV loses Cadet off the edge of a cliff rather than “uniformed civilian loses…Cadet off clift”

does that mean SNCOs/CIs only do half a job because they know there is no repercussions? or does it mean VRTs work EXTRA hard because they know there is if they mess up?

my point being, on the ground regardless of “status” as declared by the MOD, we all work equally hard ignoring the legality of the uniform we wear (or dont wear).
I dont know a VRT who puts in more effort, or a Ci/SNCO who cuts corners because of the potential level of telling off.

yes i do recognise there is a difference, and there appears to be examples where the fullness of the law has been extended upon individuals, these are however limited and few examples.
in the real world i dont know anyone who adjusts their behaviour to match the degree of a telling off, no one wants to mess up and so take all reasonable action to ensure we don’t.

When all said and done it’s a hobby.
and with this in mind does anyone see it differently because of the legality of their uniform/position?

i certainly didn’t - i was a CFAV to do the best possible job i could for the cadets, and i did, genuinely, the best possible job i could. i won’t pretend however that not being a uniformed CFAV didn’t suit my view of the qualities or otherwise of the Wing/Region/HQAC and the degree to which, as a CI, i was required/expected to brown-nose them.

as a CI i had to work within their orders, but i didn’t have to pretend i thought they were the great moral leaders and intellectual collossuses of our age. the uniformed people around me however did, or were under pressure to make it look like they did. to me, being on decent Sqn’s where the OC used what assets he had regardless of the rank, uniform or lack there-of of those assets, i thought i very much got the better deal.

i was no less committed or conciensious about what i did as a CI than what i did in the Army, even if in the Army i might have gone to prison (i’ve got rosebud lips and have smooth, soft thighs - i would not have enjoyed prison…) or been posted somewhere vile, like Tidworth, had i screwed up. personally, i’ve not met many people who were doing ‘CFAVing’ for a laugh or who didn’t put much into it…
