UAS/RPAS (‘Drones’) on squadron

Also changes to the A2 CoC which makes it a bit harder to operate in built up areas.

Does this have another meaning, besides air intelligence chain of command?

I believe A2 is the class, there being A1 and A3 as well, and Certificate of Competence.

Yes, levels are:

Flyer ID/DMARES

A2 CoC

GVC

(Some other bits beyond for more complex operations / larger aircraft are in the Certified category)

Surprised it took this long.

Given how jumpy America gets with things like this, so an I. After the Huawei debacle, this was obviously next.

Anyone know what qualification you need to run a blue RPAS syllabus classroom session?

A certificate on vellum from a virgin calf signed by your great great grandmother!

I believe it’s going to be a wild west where anyone on a Sqn can deliver it, but I’ve not seen that in any policy.

Anyone (CFAV) can teach indoor drones using the guides and videos on the 2 FTS RPAS SharePoint site as a guide. The full IBN will be coming out this week, with an updated ACTO75 and indoor and outdoor operations manual.

Will that give details of permitted equipment?

Yes, not specifc models as these will change quicker than we could publish the documents. It lays out some ‘must haves’ and a weight limit for indoor use of 170g.

The indoor trials were done using a DJI Neo but that is one of many that fit the criteria. Not being perscriptive for indoor models allows a bigger scope of models and costs. Thus allowing more to get access to flying. The outdoor flying will be provdied by the newly established regional flt cdrs that will be part of another IBN, released at the same time.

Wasn’t one of your later students Maj Hugh Trenchard?

Evening, just reading the RPAS Blue notes and it states a virtual drone flight can be used to complete the Blue syllabus, my question is which Vr/ Simulated program is authorised for use.

We use Phoenix RC on our squadron for drone/rc simulation. Not tried it with the vr headset as that’s on a different Sim Machine. Im sure there is probably an official software recommendation. I am going on a Blue RPAS Instructor course at Syerston next weekend so I can ask if no answer before then.
