if you excuse me beign picky but that seems to be a slight paradox.
as a Cadet yourself you never felt you had the right to do anything, would it not then fit that others don't feel they have the right to ask?
personally i was asked upon reaching my leaving date my OC approached me. I had never considered the idea of Staff before. I was at uni and plenty else to be considering.
becoming it hasn't done me any harm. I am now 17years into the organisation, 12 of those as Staff, picking up promotions and a CFM along the way, i believe i am well respected and have an active role (several hats) supporting Wing teams...
i would never have asked to be Staff, at the time none of my senior Cadets had made the transition (perhaps uni was too much of a pull?) so the idea of internal recruiting was never there. All the Staff were significantly older (10+ years) and out of my obvious "peer group"
i know this is very specific and personal story but it doesn't mean it won't be true for others
On my current Squadron we have one Staff member who is an ex-Cadet of the same unit but only the most senior of Cadets were even born when he (and the other ex-Cadet Staff) were Cadets.
