Are you a pre or post LASER, 18+?
I wouldn't confuse pre LASER with now. Pre LASER you could carry on to 22 as a CWO and personally those extra two years made all the difference before becoming staff. There was the option at 20 to commission or become a CI (IIRC), but the highest attrition rate was in those who 'left' at 20. A few of my mates did it and even back then rushed into commands and all but 2 had left by the time they were 28, because they found it too much too soon, although Wing thought they were more than ready.
I've not rated many 'modern' CWOs, whereas the old style CWOs were much better as they weren't in a position where they had to make rash decisions aided and abetted by COs and Wing Staff, pumping their egos. Mostly people were formally approached before or just after their 21st birthday, about being staff. An age when you are better able to make a rational decision and not be blinded by BS.
