I spoke to the CCF cadet and watched him strap it on like 3 or 4 days prior, you know what he told me? “Can’t be caught lacking”
I think I can probably speak for quite a few of us here when I say…
I have no idea what that means.

Interesting reply on ‘what do they know’ about the heat illness investigation. How could the med centre diagnose heat illness with no registered medical practitioner on site?
You’re right, that makes quite a stark reading.
Interesting to see both where the finger appears to be falling, and that this went all the way to the top.
A shame that they’re still only just talking about doing something rather than having an outcome.
Para 12 (page 5 of the pdf) of this FOI answers that for you: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1151350/FOI2022-15233_-_Request_for_copy_of_the_occurence_safety_investigation.pdf
The report states that a doctor should make the diagnosis of heat related illness, no doctor no diagnosis.
So why do we bother doing mandatory climatic Injuries training ?
Will we need to become Qualified Medical Practitioners now ??
It says a Medical Practitioner needs to Diagnose it…
Climatic Injuries Training isn’t there to train you to Diagnose, it’s there to show you how to
A) Recognise the Signs and symptoms of heat illness/NFCI’s and in turn suspect it and gain access to appropriate help for it to be diagnosed and treated
B) provide initial relief/treatment in a first aid capacity till appropriate help is available
C) Understand the steps to take to avoid HI’s/NFCI’s occuring in the first places
D) learn the risk factors of individuals and activity factors to allow for better planning
That’s us in the clear then !!
Unless you tell them to stand in the sun all day.
I thought that was what RIAT was all about !!
What do you know regarding communication between CRAFAC and OC RIAT.
Interestingly AVM Maddison is in the email chain in certain places, plus there is recognition the WGBT and the charts in JSP 375 only relate to over 18s and that children should have times under adults for work/rest. What it doesn’t quantify is the time which it can’t do as no research has been carried out on children.
The Accident Safety Board were quite correct in stating that any incident would not be defendable in a.Coroners Court but worse the RAFAC SMT knew about the possible risks and carried on.
Have you got a link to the reports?
