That would probably be a sensible approach but then would the volunteer continue to be a volunteer, not sure I could do 40 hours of RAF AC admin and then volunteer for the rest of the weekend.
Not at a price they could afford.
I was thinking about this recently. Iād happily be a WExO and continue to be a CFAV in my own time.
Odds of it happening are slim to none, but Iād give it a go.
Iād have thought that would create a conflict of interest and would therefore not be permitted.
There are at least two WExOs I know of who were CFAVs first then WEXO.
Both do no operate as CFAVs any more, but in their WExO only role. I am not sure if that is through their own choice or decided for them.
Iām sure there used to be a WExO down south who was also a sqn OC
Sqn ldr Hughes, wexo, hiow.
He was oc 1927. Then a wsc.
Now wexo.
concurrently, not consecutively?
now you say that I think i heard of something like that.
A WExO in one Wing but OC in another removing any conflict of interest or biasā¦
In C&E the ARC is also the Region Aviation Officer. As such he is a Wing Commander in both roles.
Our WExO is a former squadron commander and WSO.
He āretiredā as a CFAV did nothing for a bit then became the E2 and after a few years the WExO.
But is he any good and impartial in his reasoning.
Protecting the ethos of the Corps. Or out for his own agenda?
He is a good guy.
One of the best.
He isnt oc of a Sqn or WSC anymore (and hasnāt been for over a decade) if thatās what your worried about?
As I personally know him. I can state the above with FACT.
Iād second Paraās comment!
We may not always see eye to eye, but have great respect for the WExO. He goes out of his way to support the volunteers.
Perhaps we need to revisit the whole structure rather than playing with it and comparing the merits of individuals (who come and go). I therefore repost my contribution to another thread from Dec 18:
Certainly reconfigure Regional support. Rather than salami slice wings look at the total staffing per Region e.g. 6 wings and 1 RHQ at an average of 2.5 staff per location (+ the RC) total 15 staff (+RC). Look at 2 centre support per region with of 7 staff each with one overseen by the RC and the other by the ARC. Ensure each support centre has the full range of specialist staff, offset leave to ensure there is always someone to talk to and trial a duty officer at each centre each eve Mon-Fri with one on call over the w/e. The savings on reducing 7 sites per region to 2 would be reinvested in the admin processes.
Consider a central supply system for the RAFAC with delivery of equipment or uniforms either direct to the sqn or by strategic support from a supermarket chain when boxes could be collected whenever the store was open?
The RAF is having a radical look at how it delivers its capability - perhaps we should do the same
