Also another thats used Facebook to both buy and sell a bike in the past 12 months.
There is a site called Buycycle but i’m not 100% sure if they still support sales and purchases from the UK.

Can I just ask, why is taking your e-bike not feasible? It won’t help me answer your question, but might factor into my own decisions.
Mostly to do with not being able to be certain about charging availability, and electric bikes are damn heavy when they’re not using their batteries.
It’ll be lighter with a non-electric bike, and I won’t have to worry about trying to find somewhere to charge.
On the highest setting, my battery will only last a couple of hours. Theoretically, I could make it last all day if I only used the assistance for the steepest of hills, but that means hauling a heavy bike up less serious hills.
Thanks for the info. That’s really put me off them. I thought they’d self-charge like hybrid cars.
They’re great for popping around town; I fly past the queues of cars and arrive the other end without breaking a sweat. I use mine every day to commute to the office.
But they do need plugging in. Self-charging cars rely on petrol engines, and even electric bikes don’t have those.
I was thinking they’d charge when going downhill, braking, etc.
The new ones might have that (although I’d be surprised, as it’s all extra weight), but my bike is now 7 or 8 years old and has earlier tech. Even still, it works well for me.
You can get reasonable 2nd hand ones for about £400, or decent new for roughly £1k.
Yeah, I’ve done some reading around it now and it seems the technology isn’t quite there yet. Apparently, some very expensive e-bikes are advertised as self-charging: but still need topping up from the mains.
I think we need a cycling/ bike thread, as I too have been looking at buying a bike for when I move abroad as a stop-gap whilst I find somewhere to live and buy a car out there!
Do you know where you’ll be based? I’m assuming Geneva.
Unsure, likely Saint-Genis-Pouilly, but tbc.
I’ve been looking at hybrid electric bikes. Good for road commuting. But also okay for taking off-road, but non-mountain bike. Bridleway type tracks.
Let me ask a Geneva-based friend for suggestions and come back to you.
Bear in mind the Swiss winter weather - although I don’t remember snow being very bad, especially at the airport & local area.
I will not be cycling in the snow, ever lol. Sounds like a horrific idea
I think they only get like 30cm a year average.
I’m looking for something like this:
But not at that price

Something that’ll be good on roads, but will also work for exploring the Jura range. Mostly paved/hardpack but some gravel tracks etc.
So like this?
Yes! That looks decent. I’ve what’s find Decathlon stuff to be pretty good too. Nice find, thanks.
Make sure you get a left hand drive one ![]()
You jest, but there genuinely are differences between continental & British bikes. Much to my annoyance when trying to maintain a continental one.
Decathlon do seem like the go-to, at least initially. That one you linked to earlier seems very good for the price, and honestly, I wouldn’t want to spend more than that!
