I think this is a really good example of its not all about what youve done, its about how you did it
I see lots of arguments about Op deployments and my 2p worth would be:
They mean something until about Wg Cdr, where I would argue beyond this you stop being branch specific and in all honesty a OF5 + with an MBA and a good grounding in finance and policy will add more to defence in the majority of situations (excluding command of Ops obv).
I did 3 OOA (HERRICK, SHADER(Iraq) and KIPION) as a Flt Lt and another SHADER as a Sqn Ldr. Doesnāt mean Iāll be a good strategic leader. Just means Iām sick of hot temperatures, sand and have some dits to spin .
Although seconded to an army unit they do respond better to officers with medal ribbons but thatās a culture thing I think. Also, there is a lot of OF3 Inf / āteeth armsā coming through now with just the chocolate medals so does that mean they are disqualified from any senior appts in the future because we arenāt actively at war?!
I didnt say i thought he was no good.
Just was curious about the medal situation.
Thats all!
Did anything in my post make it sound like i was against him⦠No.
In fact i specifically said the opposite.
I was asking from an interest in medal issuing and his career.
Colour me sideways.
Always a few who want to stick their claws in when not needed!
You missed a stage - which I have added with italics
Ah, the happy days when I was briefly on the āAdmin Burden Reduction Teamā.
Which, of course, got renamedā¦
Well your comment came across as rather snide to my reading.
New CAS just announced as Harv Smyth.
Solid appointment
Weāve got matching hair cuts. I therefore approve of this appointment.
Emphasis on the cut and not the hair
What did he get his DFC for?
According to Wikipedia:
He served in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
However, the London Gazette entry quoted as a source for this only confirms the award of the medal was gazetted in October 2003 and not what it was for.
Awards have been āgazettedā in the past with no further descriptions for operations connected to special forces.
Distinguished Flying I think
How long does it take you to wash your face these days?
Quite a while. I no longer have a forehead⦠I have a five pushing sixhead.
