Although, if you trawl through many of the ACTOs and ACPs you end up with a time-served alignment for elements a cadet should have completed during their time in service.
Just off the top of my head:
EFA within 3 months
YFA within 18 months
Leading to be Cpl
Senior to be Sgt
It isn’t difficult to create a promotion guidance document around the expectations of a time-served cadet. It encourages those who wish to have chevrons to engage with the broader syllabus too.
Although the Blue-Silver development of the leadership syllabus will provide a better route to leadership than the current offering.
Know yourself-know others-lead yourself-lead others being the progression route.
From a citizenship development piece- as an OC I’m not adverse to using an application and interview process. We are here to develop our young people, and promotions provide an avenue to help us continue to support their experiences of serious life events.
This is the key difference. My units has promotion guidelines like you’ve described, but what’s been posted above isn’t that, it’s been written as requirements. If they were guidelines it wouldn’t matter as much.
Totally agreed, for me that’s why the PTS system is so poorly thought out. I agree with the core syllabus and even MOI but the whole rest of it is very dependent on the staff/cadets you have on your squadron.
