And shooting! ![]()
The quote above is from the former AOC 22 Gp, so something has changed here.
I agree - we do We have always had ‘specialist’ sqns whose delivery model has been dependent upon the staff you have and the skillset/interests/qualifications they hold
However, the conversation was about this being our flagship offering (The Air Cadets Fly!!) and how me maximise the training opportunities and consistency. We have seen with all the PTS activities coming online over the years that it is getting harder to to move above blue level and even some activities require staff ’training’ to achieve blue, despite the fact that we have been teaching it for years. It is easy for people to say ‘well just do the course to get the tick’ but each one is more time away from family/cadet activities/other hobbies (delete as required).
I understand course level assurance for external quals but since most of ours are internal and have no relevance externally we do like to make hoops for us to jump through.
So I did the trail for the ACPS on the Tutor in 2002 and we did a ‘ghosted’ solo back then as we couldn’t fly actually solo. But we also got to do low-level, nav routes and aeros (although my course report says I was more suited to 3-axis flying lol).
Was that definitely a trial for ACPS, or was ACAEFC, which did the nav and low-level sorties before it was axed?
Yes - back in 2002 there were 6 trial scholarships completed. 2 at Tayside, which was taken on as the ACPS going forward, 2 at 10AEF at RAF Cranwell using the Tutor and 2 Microlight Scholarships. I was awarded one of the trail scholarships at Cranwell.
So having another chat with OC Flying here, the intention is to get the ACPS students as close to solo standard as possible and, if all the holes line up, they will go solo in the Tutor.
