You’re right, it’s not a rank, they don’t fit into the rank structure.

You’re quite right, CI is not a rank, but the site states that everyone in RAFAC wears badges of rank. Cis are in RAFAC and don’t.
There are circumstances where aviators holding the rank of AR do not wear flight tabs, such as post-Halton holding and phase 2 training.
