DI is not mandatory to get WO despite what some try to make out.
So next year is the 20 year anniversary, who is feeling old yet?
I got slippers for Christmas. I didn’t need reminding I’m getting old by dredging this thread up.
I mean, I was 10 when the Laser review happened… Didn’t join cadets for another 4 years after that… I’ve not known any different.
Its what prompted me to realise.
Sad News indeed.
I was a proud White Tab wearing FS and CWO
Same. I had Sgt as well. The good old days of trying to hide as much of your “peado” tab as possible without getting pulled up by an AWO
I was a keen flying officer about to run my first squadron. Makes me feel very old!
My DPM CWO badge (because we could back then) had a stripe of black electrical tape above the crown - subdued staff cadet
Just asking, as I am relatively new to LASER review, what does it stand for in this instance? Presumably not the region?
Thanks
No, it was restructuring of adult nco ranks and staff cadet service in the main. I think the naming was coincidental but happy to stand corrected.
Thanks. I managed to get a respectable grasp of it to do with staff cadets and such, but the name seemed a little strange.
The review was led by Les Hakin as LASER RC, hence the name. It was a positive part of his legacy.
Thanks I hadn’t made that connection. Assumed it was yet another acronym!
I understood it was exactly that, as in the Long-term Adult Sergeant Establishment Review (and that was following the original very-limited ‘LaSER Sgts’ trial, which was run in that self-named Rgn…)
It also changed over 18s to needing to be Sgt before their birthday to be retained.
Maybe that was just to stick with the S in the title
Which was a recommendation that wasn’t accepted by HQAC.
It was on my unit… my first night the Cpl that showed me round left as they were turning 18 and hadn’t been promoted.
Was on my unit as well.
