And even then there are a fair few Squadrons where for a young CFAV, or anyone on their own, using public transport at 1030 at night isn’t the greatest idea.
Wait! You have public transport after 6pm??? What madness is this!!!
I’ve heard some say so. Never seen it of course, might be a myth.
my thoughts exactly.
I live literally a stones throw from the bus stop that goes into town (and as it happens past Sqn) but the last bus in is at 1800 and last return is 1830…
and it isn’t as if i live in a sleepy village!
Doesn’t help when a civil servant hits the wrong button for DBS (for Civcom) and then the individual has to redo - also when Wing still want a “chat” especially when the OC has done the Interview Course at Crn
Also you now have to register Id with the new post office app rather than physical checking.
This is part of the policy though, and I think @OC.1324 covered this off well, if you are low on staff it’s easy to say yes to any/all offers, a second external opinion is not necessarily a bad thing, however it should not unduly delay the process.
A key point is the requirement for a Wing Staff Officer to be involved, not explicitly the Sector Commander, so try and make use of an SME if you can.
Are all SMEs WSOs or just the Squadron Leaders?
I’d argue anyone in a primary role at Wing level is a WSO.
Could be sped up within the current process.
Step 1) Online Form
Step 2) OC interview and sign off
Step 3) DBS & BPSS submitted online
Step 4) Wing Staff Officer chat to see which direction you wish to progress
Step 5) Wing organised staff training course, DBS should be fairly quick in turn around, if declined they aren’t going anywhere. If passed they likelihood is BPSS will go through it will just take a little longer. However if you are booked on an AVIP style intro course this can be done pre-finalised checks if needed.
Step 6) Appointment as Probationary CFAV -
cards on the table here… The OC is me and in my primary role I am Reg Staff (CCF) - albeit a different region…and sit on CFC boards as a member and preside on boards for SNCO. My beef is this guy started the process back in October and it’s been one thing after another… not with him or me. Luckily he has stuck with it…
Drop me an email with details ill see if i can work some magic
The reason for Sector Commanders originally being tasked with this back in the early 2000s was because of a couple of rogue Sqns whos OCs basically packed the staff team with their mates from outside the Corps.
Not necessarily a problem, unless of course it becomes a case of mates first cadets second…
By having the sector cmdr involved, it adds that basic check and balance.
Worth noting however that times were very different then.
Also assumes sector commanders have no mates.
Accurate
Googles: What are sector commanders?
How I envy you…
ACP 20 defines WSO roles, and doesn’t differentiate between primary and secondary if I remember correctly. In reality, of course, the wing staff who have been in those posts for several decades would veto putting that into practice in most wings.
