Incoming Region Changes - ASTRA

It’s 2 miles away from 3 other units. No child is being deprived the opportunity to join a squadron - most travel further to school everyday.

All 6, because they’re now at mine.

So there is a new version of the Astra doc on SharePoint…

Here!

Doesn’t look too bad actually, but it’s what’s delivered that counts.

Nice words - proof as ever will be in the pudding.

Had to laugh at all the stuff about us becoming isolated from the parent service, firstly it sounds like Gwyneth Paltrows divorce (conscious decoupling) and secondly maybe if they had t taken away our commissions we would feel more part of the RAF family.

…the 60% success rate at spelling “Astra” in the opening 5 sentences.

There’s a lot of enthusing intent in that document. Whether it actually changes anything is the big question.

Given the state of the RAF at the moment I’m not heartbroken that there’s a separation.

Yeah, ignoring the fact that someone has swallowed the corporate buzzword dictionary and then vomitted it all over the page there is some positive stuff in there, including acknowledging that they need to change how they treat CFAVs. However, it’s easy to write that, it’s another thing to implement it.

Frankly I see very little point on keeping up the pretence of being part of the RAF family. I feel more part of the people over the road’s family than the RAF family. The RAF has shrunk like a woolly in a hot wash and “we” or more correctly the cadets are not getting any meaningful experience of the RAF. Part of this is the RAF trying to find its niche and as a result we have done our own thing to maintain cadet interest. I’m not entirely convinced about the whole space thing for the RAF, which strikes me as a way to retain an independent Air Force.
I tend to feel that we are being held back by people who are perpetuating a life in the RAF and have no idea about who we are and what we do and I’m not convinced they are that interested, which adversely affects the cadet experience. But then again they are not far enough up the food chain to actually affect change

It’s a role they’ve already had for decades so therefore theoretically best placed to move those facets forward as the scope shifts.

As much as I love tradition and history I still think it’s time to retire the RAF as a whole. Move personnel and roles to the Royal Navy and the Army. We could make savings on uniform, duplication of admin, cutting a large number of star ranks.

Heathen!

I know. My heart says I’m evil for thinking it, but brain thinks we should maybe even go further and just have a defence force with a variety of branches and one uniform.

Considering it is V2 and an annual review surely the reference to the BGA and partners for gliding thats been communicated will not happen should have been removed?

Calling it ‘Astral’ on the front page.

reads like a poitical manifesto with the constant use of ‘build back better’, but your right

We just have to hope that it doesn’t go the way of past visions and remain a good read, thats not exclusive to RAFAC, the corporate world is just as bad at failing to deliver on these things.

Get…out…
:joy::rofl::joy::rofl:

I liked the admission that they flat out forgot about us in Astra tranche 1, and recognise that that was a mistake.

It takes guts to make that admission
