If you could redesign the uniform, what would you add to it?

Officers can’t.

Officers wear blue braid on an MTP backing (they do subdued braid which is the equivalent of an MTP slide and that isn’t permitted for wear.)

Which is a huge shame because, apart from your mess dress, it’s the only time I can work out whether or not I should be saluting!

I see no reason anyone can’t wear MTP gloves in the field, they are what is issued after all. Or green, tan or whatever you can get hold of.

In ‘barracks’ go with black it’s cold enough to need them?

I agree with you, however ACP1358 doesn’t. That’s what needs changing

In the field, safety and comfort trumps dress regs.

Also black gloves aren’t actually great with MTP from a cam & concealment POV.

Back in camp dress regs apply.

But as we are not issued with gloves even then there needs to be common sense if it is cold. Cadets need to wear what they have even if they are pink mittens.

(For clarity I’m not suggesting MTP gloves with Blues, it is wrong to bait the WO Cadre)

If anyone wants to wear them.

Sorry, I’m getting picky about this now I’ve developed Raynaud’s and seen that it can set off seemingly regardless of ambient temperature.

same applies to jumpers > wear it if you want to, not because someone says it is now cold enough

Sleeves up or sleeves down :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Whichever way you like :upside_down_face:

Taken me years, but I’ve finally got the cadet NCOs to a point where they aren’t enforcing it either way now.

Left down right up then!

Yeah, honestly, if cadet’s are cold and all they have is pink mittens, then so be it. I will make some jokes, we will have a laugh, but they can crack on wearing them to keep their fingers warm.

I generally make my cadets wear their jumper sleeves down

But occasionally, just cut the sleeves off?

I was a bit sick in my mouth when I saw that

Does there need to be a chapter for “Operational” elements, so a in the field, you may wear private purchase gloves of X colour… hats, X colour and Y Style…?

Or…an addendum to the Fieldcraft Manual? (ACP16 when it is finally released?)

*** i say operational, but its just out away from a more parade night/barrack dress routine… not deploying to an operational theatre ***

Yes there does.

Or we just need to give a few people’s heads a wiggle so they don’t apply rules in ways they were never intended to be applied.

Rules which are routinely and acceptably broken are poorly written rules

IMO it isn’t required. ACP 5 trumps all, so if a cadet is cold/wet/hot etc then H&S comes first. It surely doesn’t need to be written into every other policy?

You must be new here

Maybe not but perhaps a caveat on documents that states that in most cases, ACP5 will take primacy?

I did say on a different thread a few years ago how on a camp. all but one cadet had No3 waterproofs on the day that it was raining sideways. Of course common sense and logic meant I told the cadet to crack on with their Jeltex (I was camp comming it up that week!)- nobody on the day or after (there was at least 1 photo on social media) said anything about it and I would’ve gladly backed it up had anyone.
