And what about those staff who are retired. Don’t need business insurance because they don’t drive to work, yet RAFAC makes them get it to drive cadets around…..
I’ve actually just gone back in my emails to when I questioned this. It was said that some clarification would be published.
Or also noted that ‘for business purposes’ did not mean business insurance.
Policy at date I emailed:
Adequate insurance cover. It is the personal responsibility of an individual using their private motor vehicle (para 7 above refers) in respect of authorised RAF Air Cadets activities to ensure that the vehicle insurance policy covers the risks and is insured for business use (which, notwithstanding the voluntary nature of the RAF Air Cadets, will require insurance for occasional business use or as advised by the individual’s insurer) along with a valid Road Tax and current MoT, and that all are valid on the date the journey is undertaken.
Response:
The above statement takes into account that Business Insurance is not always required, could be named something else or already included to an extent on your current policy, but take advice from your individual insurer.
And then regarding the sign off on VP/accts form 9:
The Accts Form 9 – para b of the declaration states – b. That use of the vehicle is covered by an appropriate insurance policy which includes use for business purposes. This statement is also a compromise, but we do request that this declaration is reviewed and ticked annually on Bader, as it forms part of the payment audit in lieu of the 102.
Again with the Form 9 sign off on BADER, as long as an individual has satisfied themselves that adequate insurance is in place for cover there should be no issues in claiming. Note it says business purposes not ‘Business Insurance’.
TLDR, you do not need business cover. But you do need to be appropriately insured, so check with your insurance.
Many thanks for looking into that for me. I will check with my insurers who are Aviva who are one who include cover for volunteers.
Mine (Admiral) added “biz” miles per yr at no extra cost, covers me taking cadets to / from shoots, gliding & AEF, etc.
Aviva look to be friendly in that respect.
