Fitness Chat (Personal Development)

Cosford do a run around the airfield too.

So Iā€™m trying something new this year; a fitness diary.

Iā€™ve found that thereā€™s a lot of things that I look to improve on in my running, but can never put them all together to make sense. Has anyone tried something like this before?

Must be the project manager in me trying to find lessonsā€¦

Excuse the very obvious redactions of place names - some are very unique.

Your handwriting is amazing!

Thank you. I had unbelievably awful handwriting through junior school, so really put some effort into it at that stage to improve it.

Itā€™s almost the same mentality that caused me to take up running properly. I was really bad at it through my school & army days (the exception being sprinting) so I put some effort into it to see how I could do.

Without data itā€™s impossible to show improvement and trends. Your data just so happens very wordy.

I do similar with Strava and adding notes to activities when Iā€™m looking to focus on specific issues.

Cosford and Shawbury both do 10kā€™s, doesnā€™t look like Cosford have released the date for theirs yet this year

I have the quantitative stuff too - Strava & Garmin - but this gives me the qualitative data thatā€™s harder to record.

Because bikes are cool.

Just a shame the clubs who ride them are not

A few years ago I was looking to join the local ā€œVelo CCā€ when I bumped into a few of their members whilst out riding alone.

At that point I decided I was quite happy riding as an individual, as the club members were insufferable eliteists.

Once the marathon is complete, I hope to get back into riding again, but the only people Iā€™ve met so far who are even more insufferable are entitled motorists who give so much jip for me riding on quiet country roads. This is what stopped me riding previously.

To clarify, i was talking about bikes with enginesā€¦

Nothing cool about being in skin tight clothing holding up traffic.

I donā€™t know why this hit me so suddenly today, but it did.

Since my weight peaked in the middle of 2022, Iā€™m now down 28.8kg or, in old money, 63.5lbs. Thatā€™s over 4Ā½ stone.

Man, I was a proper fat (insert appropriate word here) wasnā€™t I?

Well done!

Thank you. Took me a while to work out how to stitch the 2 together, but hereā€™s a comparison from Sept 2022 to last week. I actually donā€™t think the change is particularly visible, but there definitely is one there.

I think there is an element of No 3s not being particularly flattering at the best of times!

Losing 28Kg over less than 2 years is pretty awesome. Well done. Now imagine walking around every day with a 28Kg bag on your back! Youā€™d soon be tired.

One of these days I should really pay more attention to this thread and start doing something my selfā€¦

Incredible effort @WhiskeyNovember keep it going.

Youā€™re not wrong, but rucking is something Iā€™m looking to incorporate into my regime too. Maybe I should start by adding those 28kg backā€¦

A note to anyone doing keto; learn from my lessons!

The diet is still working amazingly, and Iā€™m a few hundred grams away from being in the 70s (kg) after this morningā€™s weigh-in, but Iā€™ve learnt a non-negotiable over the past couple of weeks.

I was getting really annoyed that my weight loss kept seeming to either stall or reverse for up to a week at a time. But at the end of that week, there would then be a huge drop (nearly 2kg, 1kg this week) very suddenly that stayed off.

At first I wondered whether these drops might be something to with my scales. Had they moved? Nope, same place as always. Still reading well and no need for new batteries.

So I thought back and realised there was a correlation that I think was the cause. The drops coincided with when I was actually able to evacuate my bowelsā€¦

So, for anyone thinking of doing keto, the lesson Iā€™ve very strongly learnt over the past couple of weeks is that, so long as theyā€™re built into your carb budget, donā€™t go full carnivore because side salads are your friends!

Need to make sure you have enough fibre in a keto diet, leafy greens feature heavily.
