First aid requirements for staff

Agreed. Virtually identical to FAAW.

This should be changing. The new SO1 Med at HQAC is in the process of establishing MSO’s in each Wing/Region along side CFR level cover for events where it’s deemed nessescary

Given CFRs vary massively across trusts, I feel this may need clarification?
CFRs are generally “in house” certificates that don’t meet any specific standard or RCSED FPHC PHEM framework descriptor, based on what each trust wants them to do.

Im hoping that clarification comes shortly. CFR level was all that was mentioned.

Trust me, working frontline I know all too well the varying scopes of practice of CFR’s.

I recently emailed SO1 Med asking when we can expect a further update/see some movement with this plan

Looking at that grid. the RAFAC AFA cert is probably at level A. It could be a level B but we certify it inhouse.

Will be interesting to see how that is managed and who will provide the training within the RAFAC to get this off the ground. Look forward to an update!

For larger events, we really should have cover at a ‘C’ level. Currently we seem to be happy having 1000 cadets in one place so long as there is just loads of basic first aiders.

But it needs to be RAFAC led. We shouldn’t be relying on people like AFOs of CFRs who are bringing their own kit in to cover these events.

That really depends on the risk and expected injuries.

If we’re just expected a large number of paper cuts and grazes then loads of low level first aiders is fine.

If we’re expecting worse than that for some reason then I guess the RAFAC would need to have a better medical plan in place in general including notifying emergency services etc.

FAAW is enough to teach people how to use an AED and perform BLS for someone until a paramedic or first responder arrives, very rarely are these events held in places that would require more advanced life support.
