The issue with VA is that they seem to be under the misunderstanding that if they limit VA for an activity it will be done for free and we will then do some other activity for the money.
In reality we may well do the event we want for free but that’s not going to encourage me to turn up to the Band Competition or whatever else it is they can’t staff as my time is still finite. (And most of us aren’t doing it for the money anyway).
No. But often it’s the only way we get our partner on board with “yet another weekend lost to cadets” or pay for the equipment we need. Lose it and you’ll see a large exodus of CFAVs (not me as I’m close enough to filing for divorce anyway that an ultimatum would not go in her favour) or at the very least an inability to staff events that they normally have to issue a three line whip for.
