F6424 CFMO Support - IBN 7 (2025) & IBN 014 (2026)

Frustratingly both of these cases are entirely avoidable outside of the MoD bubble

Yep - I’ve flown privately in a C152 experience flight, but cannot fly currently with RAFAC.

Had some feedback from the RAF Av Med sphere - not much is happening, & the question that I asked (e.g. is it safe to continually extend existing F6424s) haven’t been aswered.

If I can’t get confirmation from there, I really do wonder what guidance RAFAC is working under.

I’ll wait a few days, otherwise my draft email to Wg Cdr Stanton (c.c. Cdmt) will be fired off. We really need a workable stop-gap solution - even if RAFAC has to pay for a UK CAA AME to review cadet’s medical notes.

Of course, still no announcement from 6FTS about extending existing F6424s.

New IBN which includes a new version of the form. It states all printed physical copies of old versions should be destroyed. So does that mean anyone with a signed form now can’t fly? No more extensions if you need to destroy the form…

The IBN also refers to “The CFMO”, so does the RAFAC now have one?

The CFMO role still exists in the RAF, he just isn’t able to process 6424’s. RAFAC AMO is a different post

Suprised you’d be allowed to email the wing commander and cc the Commandant? without going through every other person first in the chain.

This new update is gonna confuse everyone as they will assume we can now use it and process F6424 forms but we can’t as there is no replacement for the CFMO yet to approve these forms.

Ah yes, but this is Mike Jenvey. Capable of feats we mortals would be crushed for and more stories than there were sandbags on Herrick.

Air Commodore is basically the start of the CoC for Mike :joy:

Yes, this had bounced from lower levels to 2FTS initially.

However, at time, the urgency & complexity of a situation might demand initiating a constructive challenge higher up the CoC than normal. It was very clear that the timeframe to determine suitable action was limited - as it was, more than a few cadets who had lost ACPS slots “moved on” to other life events, so lost out on the Silver GS alternative that was eventually offered.

If something isn’t considered soon for the current circumstances (ACOS allocation markedly reduced), then some cadets will lose out (again). There is more of a lead time but RAFAC mustn’t delay.

The situation regarding F6424s is confusing me somewhat, so I was hoping someone could answer these queries:

We have a cadet that has never had a F6424 before that has been selected for a Silver Gliding Scholarship that requires an F6424 before he can commence. The cadet does not believe that there is anything in his medical history that will require the GP to liaise with the CFMO. Can this cadet get a new F6424 signed off by their GP now (providing the GP doesn’t wish to consult the CFMO)?

If he can, and has already handed in a form to his GP but it is V11. Will that be accepted when it has been completed or do we need to get them to swap it for a V12 before completion?

I would advise the cadet/cadets parents to speak with the GP and ask if the updated form could be completed….

Does it cost anything to have GPs do this additional investigation for us, or do they do this free of charge?

I’ve always assumed diving medicals costed money, but they’re probably specialist provision?

Check the ACTO - I’m out & about so can’t easily refer to things - has it been changed to a UK CAA Class 2 medical for Silver GS?

Any fees charged for F6424 can be claimed, the form outlines the process.

to sign of a 6424?

this is always a chargeable process - same for D1 licences, which require a Dr sign off as “medically fit”

for reasons i have never known, this does not fall within the NHS service thus chargable.

the biggest headache (before the CFMO saga) was Drs not willing to complete the paperwork without payment upfront.

trouble is, the MOD will pay for a F6424 so we the public (Cadet/Cadet’s parents) don’t pay it, nor can be reimbursed - the process is fixed, the MOD will pay on evidence of a completed form.
the form specifically says, give part A to the Cadet, send part B to MOD at >address< for payment (adjust wording accordingly)

Unfortunately, when I went through this process with my son, part B was printed on the back of part A.

The request for a F6424 came on the SGS offer email from the VGS.

Back home - checked ACTO32 - yes, that looks reasonable. Might have got confused with one of our cadets who had both SGS & VGS flt staff cadet offer in almost one go - he had to do (I think) Class 2 medical.

And with another IBN… this gets better and better in classic RAFAC fashion…

This is going to be a fun one to explain to any affected cadets.

Yep. I like their use of the phrase ‘‘and reduce avoidable disappointment’’. How are CFAVs exactly meant to do that?

any follow-on action can be taken in good time.

Only reasonable follow on I can suggest is to tell all cadets affected to update their medical records so that they will no longer be affected.
