Economic Impact On The Volunteer

From the Wing/Region apparatus.

It is, imv, for the staff, the cadets, and the parents to determine the definition of a ‘successful’ squadron, not a WHQ.

In my experience the one night a week Sqn was a great success for all concerned - less stress, less ferrying, less ‘make work’, more concentration on what was actually wanted - but the reaction from the echelons above was not positive.

You remember, of course, the difference between activity and achievement?..

Yes.
One leads to the other.

… at a successful Sqn anyway! :joy::rofl::joy::rofl::joy::rofl:

The biggest difference between the past and the current down turn is the double bubble of the pandemic with everything stopping, many effectively laid off for months, jobs changing, changing jobs, less money, perhaps time due to changing jobs with associated work patterns, ‘fear’ of infection meaning not going out AND then the cost of living rises we have seen and will continue to experience, which is affecting what people see fit to spend their money and time doing, as they ‘reset’ their lives.
The down turns of the past while they affected people, some more than others and some may have reduced what they did, life effectively went on, in contrast to March 2020.

So because of a road closure on my drive home from cadets at the moment, I’m getting an effective round-trip millage rate of 18p/mile once you take into account the 6 miles ‘contribution’ and the fact I have to go a longer way home. And you can only claim shortest normal distance.

Not really got a point to this, just thought I’d share it :man_shrugging:

You should be able to claim that as it’s outside your control, I’ve done it on 1771 before not sure for HTD.

(I get 0 contributions to doing my evening hobby as I moved to my closest sqn, I was previously on a 58 mile round trip)

Yeah, I’ve done it on 1771 too. In fact the policy even says you can on 1771. But not for HTD.

You ca put in a note saying that longer is quicker/easier/safer drive. I hade a a member of staff HTD bounce because of this. put in a case that driving over the Brecon Beacons as opposed to using the M4/A48 and other a roads was a better option. It got appoved

Right, if it’s every night like your example that’s okay for HTD to make a case, as HTD is calculated based on a round trip amount that doesn’t change. My issue is that my round trip amount changes at the moment, depending on whether or not a certain road is closed!

It’s probably only with a few £, my point was just that the system isn’t the best… With VP integration, I wonder if it could ping the Google maps API and check routes at the actual start/end time of a parade night :thinking: Probably adding unnecessary complication, but would be pretty cool!
