EAIR Help!

Will anybody actually review it? Suggest and/or make changes? Is there even a budget for the environmental improvements required???

As has been said above:

This is a job for a paid staff member
This is a job for someone trained and who knows what they’re looking for.
This is something else to be beaten around the head for not doing by people who should know better.
This serves no demonstrable purpose in supporting or training cadets.

That form is part of the Environmental Management System (ACP 5, Part 2, section 14).

I was asked for feedback on the draft policy, and to be fair, the original policy has been waterered down. The draft policy suggested, for example, that we carry out research as to the ethics of a company before purchasing anything for the unit, that we dont carry out essential journeys, and that we alter the way we drive to and from the unit…

The reason why our workload is increasing, is highlighted by an line in the email from the author:

“RAFAC policy requires sqns to have an EMS but as any EMS has to be proportionate to the size of the organisation the draft sqn EMS is pretty basic and shouldn’t prove to be an admin burden to the sqn commander.”

Many little administrative changes add up to a lot over time.

Anything more than nothing is an admin burden - or am I over simplifying this?

What would help would be a central EAIR/policy statement that says ‘every Sqn should consider doing a, b & c and not doing x, y & z, to improve environmental performance, because the effect of these is blah blah’. That could be shared with staff and cadets to discuss and perhaps change behaviours. The EAIR seems like repetition of the same activities across all 1000 units.

Nobody is telling anyone how to think. You realise we tell cadets not to bully each other, how to act as leaders, how to dress smartly and other things relevant to the world? It’s actually the nature of the organisation.

How’s the hobby of enriching young people’s minds going?

I can enrich minds etc with much more useful things and don’t need sideshows like this and other socio-political matters.
Where have the days gone like my cadet days where you turned up had some fun with your mates and went home? I can’t recall the staff ever sitting us down to discuss or talk about stuff like this.

but I doubt that when you were a cadet 60% of teenagers felt “very worried” or “extremely worried” about climate change:

If you so much as mention the Ukraine crisis to your cadets, then it is totally our place to talk about issues affecting humanity at some scale.

And this is the difference. Teenagers now are choosing to talk about issues like climate change.

Stay on the subject please. If you want a wider discussion about the merits of discussing world affairs with the people climate change will directly affect, please start a new topic.

Ok, so I am resurrecting this one again as I have recently taken command of a unit and this is next on my list of MANY things to do!!!

Has anyone tackled the EAIR at all??

Would you be willong to share it with me to give me some guidance on what is required etc??
