It does, as “adult warrant officers of services cadets”. In 1950, non commissioned adults were appointed as adult warrant officers.

Right, so contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t just the ATC that had AWOs? Amazing. The other strange outcome from what you’re saying is that up until 1957, only the Sea Cadets saw fit to appoint non-warranted Adult SNCOs. And, of course, there is the eternal mystery as to why the ATC took another half century before appointing ASNCOs.
SSI and RSMI were introduced around 1970.
Aha, so I was nearly close with my guesses!!
A couple more questions, talon, if you don’t mind. Do the following people get the CFM:
RFCA CAAs (or indeed any other RFCA staff)?
CCF non-commissioned school-appointed SSIs?
ACFA staff?

CCF SSIs would be eligible for the CFM. I could be wrong but I do not believe that CAAs or ACFA staff are eligible for the CFM by default as they are not necessarily uniformed staff. Many CAAs are also CFAVs and are therefore eligible for the CFM. The same happens with many other RFCA positions. I imagine there are some ACFA roles are are uniformed as well.

you are the regional commandant who looks at CI’s who don’t want to go into uniform [DISAPPROVINGLY], and i claim my £5.
you’re claim has been unsuccessful this time…no win.
my comments where not a personal view on the credibility of O18 service or the small value on the work CIs do, or both of those views.
simply my interpretation of how those in the Ivory Towers, who dont know what a coal face is let alone work at, see the world, ie black and white as per the orders, instructions and regulations in place.
on that basis an active Cadet will have an expected higher attendance than a CI on paper
a poorly attending O18 Cadet (once a month lets say) would be questioned about their commitment and if persistent asked to leave/kicked out.
A CI attending on average once a month wouldn’t be questioned in the same manner because of the difference in expectation of the roles.
now i know the majority of CIs attend 7/8 nights a month, plus weekends and many do more hours than their uniformed counterparts but looking at it with cold, emotionless black and white view the expectation on an O18 Cadet in terms of attendance* is higher than that of a CI and as such can understand why O18 service is counted.
*note not participation, attendance
personally however i know it is different. for every unformed member of Staff we have on our Squadron we have nearly four CIs and i am not unfamiliar with the work of a CI having done my stint myself.
Nor am i against CIs avoiding uniform. Two CIs we have are retired from uniform so pointless convincing them! I will ask the question “what are your long term plans” and may question their choice, particularly if i feel they are better suited to a different role but never pressurise or look down on CIs who dont go into uniform.
I am very pro-CI so much so see them (and this isnt the first time i am saying it here) equal to WOs with regard to respect, given the compliments paid to them. I am not saying a CI has the seniority of a WO or “out ranks” a Sgt/FS but we should not put them at the bottom of the pile given they are offered the same privileges as a WO; called sir/ma’am and using the Sgts Mess.
yes there should be more recognition of the work CIs do and the numerous years of service offered, but the same could be said for all CFAVs. We cannot recognise everyone as shown by the discussions in the NYs Honours topic. Sometimes awards and gongs go to those who are just doing their job (which is the CFM after all…there is no measure of competence or special merit…just turn up enough to not upset anyone) rather than those who deserve any kind of thanks
