I’m waiting for the next set of groups, ‘Action on Palestine’ and ‘Palestine: Action!’
What happened to the Popular Front?
Renamed to Popular Action.
Waiting for one of the splinter groups to be:
The People’s Front of Judea
Splitter, it’s theJudean peoples front.
And what about the half who would want Bob Cryer?
& we would end up with Reg Hollis!
Any time you insert elections into a situation you add bias and selfish motivation.
A terrible idea for any role that requires being disinterested and without agenda.
Perhaps select people by ballot similar to jury service.
Not exactly champions of democracy here, are we?
Just as well our oaths are to the King.
No system is perfect and no system is effective in all situations.
A raffle is a good way to give away a bottle of wine, but not a good way to choose a PM.
From what I remember of the “democratic” selection of jurors for the case I was on, heaven help us if we go down that route for the judiciary.
While I’m thinking about it, if that was a vote there’s good chance we’d have had King Ali G for a stint.
“What’s your favourite part of Buckingham Palace?”
“West side is da best”
Unfortunately a great number of our judges are highly politicised “former” activists
The judiciary is overwhelmingly white, privately educated and conservative, and male.
The judiciary is well behind the general population, my friend last year was the first serving Crown Court Circuit judge to fall pregnant, ever. they had to write the maternity policy for Crown Court judges for her specifically.
Don’t let facts get in the way of opinion, however dumb they appear.
I didn’t realise we were rewriting Reform UK’s motto?
Does that mean I’m not allowed to ask for evidence for the claim?
Depends on the court. In the Employment Tribunal I’d say my right of centre views are an outlier, most I know have left wing views when we chat in the mess, not that you’d know that when you look at some of the decisions they come out with.
The IAC is probably the most diverse, but then the Circuit bench is the polar opposite.
Circuits are much whiter. Bristol Crown is entirely white, and has only one woman, with another about to join. Exeter, Plymouth, Truro, Taunton, Gloucester and Swindon are all entirely white male judges.
