The course being run this month is the last of those being supported UAV Academy, as 2 FTS is now its own RAE and we’ll be shifting to an internal provisioned course for A2 and GVC/RPC L1.
692 will be continuing to recruit adult staff and train them. A notice of how you can volunteer for this coming soon. This may include sponsoring some to gain a NQF Level 3 training certificate, as we have done with a number of CFAVs over the past 12-months.
If you have existing experience and qualifications this doesn’t mean that you’ll automatically be allowed to fly or instruct within RAFAC. We are required to provide training on our operational procedures and certify your competency. This is a short course details of which can be gleaned from Flt Cdr Training and Technical within 692 (details on 2 FTS SharePoint).
The level 3 training is something I have wanted to do for the last couple of years now as I also teaching first aid and its required for silver but have had no luck on been able to do it or should I say get it funded. I am hoping after doing the drone course as you say this is something I will be able to then go on to do and get support for which will help me on both RPAS and first aid.
I don’t know your age, but if you are under 25 you can apply to the Air Cadet Charity for funding, a L3 IET sounds like the sort of thing they would support.
I’d love to know why the ACC doesn’t offer financial support for CFAV older than 25 to undertake training to support cadet experience & activity delivery
I guess it’s a focus on new CFAV/recent cadets but of course that isn’t and should not be the only route into service as a CFAV.
Back to drones, it does seem that (for now) the only route in is to hold the GVC already and then do the 2FTS conversion, with new courses coming on stream later.
Our region has certainly not advertised CFAV courses since 2024, or if they did the info didn’t make it past the wing AvOs.
Fully accredited with internal and external verification.
HQAC will be set up as a centre with teaching via teams and the coursework on line is the modal they are looking at.
