Annual Leave and the ACO

If it handled like any other leave request, ie if you have a maximum off for weeks at any one time rule, as we do ,which is 2 from the 5 on our section. It’s a departmental rule that works for us and has done for years. There have been some years I’ve not used my week or part of it, as it hasn’t fitted in with the rest of the section and or my real holiday needs.

29? Can I come and work with you?!

The only reason I have ANY surplus holiday is because a course I planned to attend fell through.

I don’t mind using holiday entitlement for a few things and I mind giving up weekends even less; the issue is that there are very few courses that run on weekends these days - look at D1 and shooting quals, for example. Both of these (and many more) are vital to successfully providing the range and quality of training to cadets. It’s toughest at the bottom - once you’ve built yourself up it’s not so bad, but the corps is becoming evermore staffed by the younger generation, without qualifications and little holiday entitlement to gain them with… Add into that a camp or two and you’re screwed.
