Blabbing that you’ve been offered a job but declined is deeply frowned upon - he’s explicitly saying that he doesn’t trust the PM, a mere 3 days into his premiership.
He won’t be offered another job, and he’s made himself a number of very senior enemies. When he goes to ministers and the whips because he wants something for his pet projects or his constituency, he’ll get the long finger.
He’s an idiot. And he’ll achieve nothing, and he’ll be advised by his CLP chair that it would be best if he found a new career in the run up to the next GE, rather than being deselected.
I’ve never understood this as a comeback. There’s a lot of people in this world who I think are complete idiots, but of course I’d never say it to them, that’d be silly!
One’s honors does not always equate to one’s actual personality or lack of being an idiot. Plenty of people with honors who are idiots.
I don’t have an opinion on Carns really, but let’s not use petty arguments over the matter?
Now he’s a politician. A bad one. Who will achieve none of the things he wants to achieve (in both effects and career terms) because he no political skills. Or, apparently, even normal good manners.
Well, all I can say is that I have meet him on a number of occasions and found him to be a thoroughly nice bloke.
Name one other person within government who has/is pushing for the kind of increase in defence, (and by default Air Cadet), spending as hard as he is? Plus his work for veterans.
I met him in Afghanistan - I rated him in his job then, and people I know and rate think highly of him from his much more recent work.
He was a very good soldier - both on the ground and within MOD.
He’s a very poor politician. I don’t know why he hasn’t been able to transfer skills, or attitude, or whatever, but he has become a man unable to read a room, far too openly ambitious, apparently rather contemptuous of the bulk of his colleagues (and it doesn’t matter whether it’s valid or true - it only matters if that’s what his colleagues believe..), and not someone who is able to win friends and influence people.
Man who was good at one job turns out to not to be good at a different job. Shocking stuff. Almost unheard off in human history….
