I take it your not a fan of SNCOs running sqns? Remember after 01 APR 17, we are all the same status 'civvies in uniform', so with any luck we can ditch the fallacy that you need to be an officer to run a sqn or DF. I've got a Sgt and FS on the sqn who have been Adj, TO and dabbled in H&S and could easily run a sqn, but because of snobbery aren't considered.
I've seen far too many young officers rushed, pushed, cajoled into commands, who haven't really decided what they want to do when they grow up and then find they want to travel, start in a job which means they can't really do the job of OC or start a family and find being mum/dad and demands of the ATC as a CO, coupled with the bill paying job, don't really go together. I've seen some who think it's their right to be a sqn cdr by say 25 and when it doesn't happen eject their toys, or, see it as a rite of passage / box to tick to get a Wing job, or, get their dream only to discover it's not all Pimms and strawberries and cream on the lawn. All of these things stuff sqns. Therefore making say the minimum age 30 for a Sqn Cdr, they will know whether or not they are in a position to do the role and more importantly the sqn justice.
